The picturesque historic town of Hoi An is located on the central Vietnamese coast.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a well preserved example of a trading post dating back to the 15th Century, showing signs of trading throughout Southeast Asia as well as the rest of the world. This melting pot of cultures shows architectural styles from ancient China, Japan, Vietnam as well as the later French Colonial styles.
Nowadays, Hoi An has become one of the top tourist attractions in Asia becoming famous for its custom tailor shops, hand made shoes and bags and art stores. Try your hand at making your own silk lantern, which you can see adorned almost everywhere throughout the town.

At night you can stroll through the wonderful markets set up in the old town, eat a delicious meal- Hoi An is famous for dishes such as Cau Lau and White Rose Dumplings.
On weekends celebrate the lantern festival by taking a trip along the canal and releasing your own floating lantern while you make a wish.

We gave one of our 3D design teams the task with recreating the waterfront of the beautiful ancient Vietnamese town of Hoi An.
Going by photographs of the street and pictures of bicycles, cyclos, lanterns, tables, chairs and the sampans on the water they were able to create a realistic representation of this picturesque historical location.
Using Maya and Substance Painter to replicate the buildings and complex textures showing age and water marks from constant flooding during the rainy season was the first stage, before bringing everything together in Unreal Engine 5
