GTA ONLINE DOWN: Server status, Rockstar services unavailable as Epic Games freebie stops GTA 5 work

GTA Online servers are experiencing issues this afternoon with reports that Rockstar Games servers are having connection issues.

GTA ONLINE SERVER UPDATE - It's been a day of mixed emotions for Grand Theft Auto Online players as servers and services continually struggled throughout the day.

As you can see from the image below, online connectivity has recovered and struggled at various points.

Sorry to say, it seems as though that Rockstar Games' services could struggle all weekend and possibly way into next week right up until the game is removed from Epic Games Store, who are currently giving away the game for free.

To keep up to date on all problems, follow RockstarSupport on Twitter and visit for up to date official news on all Rockstar services and problems with Social Club.

Original Story - GTA 5 Online servers appear to be down this afternoon with a recent surge of reports from players all suggesting the service has stopped working.

It appears most issues are related to the recent surge of new players following he Epic Games free giveaway announced earlier this week.

The popular online game started to experience connectivity issues at around 10.30am BST this morning with gamers reporting issues with the games online connections.

Independent outage monitor Down Detector has received a surge of GTA 5 down reports with the majority of issues relating to connection problems and 'Online Play'.

There's also problems releating to the Rockstar Social Club, something which Rockstar Support themselves confirmed on Friday afternoon, tweeting:

"We are aware of an issue resulting in Social Club account verification email delays and are actively working to resolve it. Players who have not received their account verification email after 4 hours should resubmit an email verification request."

The Down Detector outage map says the problems are mainly hitting users in the UK, Europe and some smaller parts of the US on the east coast. Although this could increase rapidly as more people on the West coast log on to play this evening.

Down Detector has also seen a peak of close to 800 'GTA 5 down' reports in the last few minutes. But a look at the US website would suggest the number is closer to 1000. This also doesn't factor in the many players who might be experiencing issues, but not reporting it.

At the time of writing, there's no word on what might be wrong with the servers online service or when it might be fixed.

Rockstar Games support has yet to issue a message specifically about the problems occurring today.

Equally their own support website appears to be struggling to load as well (at least when we've checked twice)

And as you can imagine, the die-hard Grand Theft Auto fans are not happy at all.

One clearly unhappy player wrote: "@RockstarGames @EpicGames The Grand Theft Auto Online server: Am I a joke to you? Like come on R*, servers are having problems, can't even do my heist properly because of the influx of player currently going on. #rockstarfix"

Whilst another added: "@RockstarGames @EpicGames hey your gta server can't handle, and now your server down, we're veteran player can't play because of it"

A third player also pointed the problems squarly at 'Fortnite' kiddies, referencing the influx of new players from Epic Games Store: "@RockstarGames @EpicGames the game is basically unplayable as the servers are being broken by fortnite kiddies cranking their “90s” and even more modern"
